45 Hours bi-weekly; December 1, 2009 – November 30, 2010

PHYSIOTHERAPIST
(PIPSC Bargaining Unit)

Under the direction of the Manager Rehabilitation Services, plans, organizes and directs physiotherapy services for both Inpatient and Outpatient Therapies (acute and chronic programs and services); provides physiotherapy assessment and treatment to clients with a broad range of physical and psychosocial disabilities primarily in the areas of the musculo-skeletal, cardio-respiratory and neurological systems. Supervises and directs Rehabilitation Aide(s); acts as a consultant to other health care professionals throughout the Yukon; supervises Physiotherapy students, provides staff education for musculo-skeletal injury prevention (MSIP), participates in program development and general departmental administration.

The following knowledge and skills are required for this position:

  • Knowledge of physiotherapy philosophy and principles;
  • Knowledge and ability in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of conditions treated by physiotherapists;
  • Ability to supervise and train support staff;
  • Ability to supervise physiotherapy students;
  • Ability to work independently, as well as within an interdisciplinary team;
  • Ability to educate clients, peers and other health care professionals or community groups individually or in groups;
  • Ability to promote client independence and self-esteem;
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;
  • Effective interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Knowledge of hospital routines and procedures; and
  • Cross-cultural awareness.

You must have successfully completed a Bachelor Degree in Physiotherapy/Physical Therapy and have current registration in the Yukon, or must have completed the registration process prior to first day of employment. You must also have successfully completed the Physiotherapy competency Exam (PCE). Physiotherapists graduating prior to this ruling will be exempt from this requirement. Although not required for the position, 2 years experience in a general setting and/or post-graduate continuing education coursework would be considerable assets for this employment opportunity.

We offer a competitive wage of $31.81 to $42.49 per hour as well as relocation assistance up to $1,000.
